CAHSS Vector-Borne Diseases Network

Mosquitoes, ticks, flies and fleas are more than annoying pests. These insects, amongst others, are vectors that can spread disease with a single bite. Working together with our partners and collaborators, CAHSS is looking closely at changing vector ranges and disease transmission risks across North America, developing an understanding on how climate change is affecting species ranges and survival, studying animal-vector interactions and sentinel patterns, and planning protection of unsuspecting animals from infection and outbreaks.

Preparing in Canada for the Longhorned Tick

Vector Sample Sharing Dashboard

This dashboard is a centralized platform to coordinate vector collection and testing across Canada. Individuals can offer or request vector samples for various surveillance and research activities. Entries are categorized by field work location, vector type, sample type and collaboration type.

eTick Project

eTick is a community science project that invites the public to participate in the monitoring of ticks in Canada by submitting tick photos via a mobile application or a web site (eTick.ca) for identification by trained personnel. The identification results appear in real time on a public interactive map so that visitors can visualize all entries for a specific area and/or examine individual submissions.
